[It begins so normally.

Both Ruby and Weiss have a day off from work, and Weiss suggests they take a quick patrol for gem monsters on the outskirts of town. Nothing huge or formal, just clear out a few stray gem monsters, bubble them, get some combat practice in.]

Does it seem unusually quiet here to you?

[She's holding Crescent Rose, because they need to be on guard and focused, and on high alert.]

Definitely. Probably a big monster around here somewhere.

[Weiss pulls Myrtenaster from her hip. She'd left it holstered, confident this wouldn't be a big thing, but well. This is shaping up to be a big thing.]

That's a little bigger than I was hoping for.

Yeah. Well, that's the risk of a patrol, I guess. You want to turn back and call for help?

[She's sure they can take it, but. Doesn't hurt to ask.]

I'm sure we can take it. [They've fought enough gem monsters and Ruby's always good at coming up with plans. Weiss is sure this will be fine.] Besides, Yang's taking care of Blake and I'm not sure where anyone else would be right now.

Right. I guess just... signal if you see anything.

[There's gotta be... something around to tell where the gem monster is, right? ... Right? Man sometimes she misses fighting Grimm.]

[Fighting Grimm is so much easier than gem monsters, in Weiss' honest opinion. There's only so many types of Grimm to keep straight, but gem monsters are a veritable grabbag of craziness.]

[Weiss has tried scanning for gem monsters with empathy before, but it never works out very well. That doesn't stop her from trying it now, though.

. . . Yeah, she's got nothing and it shows on her face.]
